Your design appears here — bold lines, classic palette, ready to take to your tattoo artist.
The bald eagle has been the national bird of the United States since 1782, so in American traditional tattooing it is closely tied to freedom, strength and patriotism. It was one of the most requested designs among sailors and soldiers in the first half of the 20th century.
Beyond patriotism, the eagle stands for vision, courage and rising above hardship. The classic eagle vs snake design shows a battle between good and evil — or between the person you want to be and what holds you back.
Spread-wing eagles need width, which is why they are the classic American traditional chest piece — the wings follow the collarbones. Eagle heads and diving eagles suit the forearm, upper arm and calf. Smaller eagles work on the hand or ankle if the details stay simple.
Your artist will stretch or tighten the wings to fit your body. Bring the flash as a starting point and let them adapt it.
