What does a traditional rose tattoo mean?
In American traditional tattooing the rose is traditionally associated with love, beauty and devotion. Its thorns add a second layer: beauty that comes with pain, or love that has been tested.
Roses are also the most common way to honor someone. Old-school flash often paired a rose with a banner for a name — "Mom" being the classic — so a rose can be both a tribute and a symbol of lasting love. Combined with a dagger it can mean love and betrayal or fighting for love; with a skull it reflects the balance between life and death.
